Massive Corruption Scheme Uncovered in Mykolaiv Region: Over 364 Million UAH in State and Municipal Funds Embezzled

In the Mykolaiv region, law enforcement agencies uncovered one of the largest corporate corruption scandals in recent years, revealing a widespread scheme of embezzling national and local funds.
Prosecutors and police collaboratively identified the involvement of 20 individuals in a criminal scheme that resulted in budget misappropriation exceeding 364 million hryvnias.
Among the suspects are a city mayor, military administration officials, managers of municipal enterprises, educational sector representatives, and public organization leaders, who manipulated financial documents and facilitated fraudulent financial transactions.
Investigations show that the largest abuses occurred through inflating the costs of outdoor lighting equipment—more than 6.9 million UAH—and unjustified fund transfers during repairs at the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant, amounting to over 5.7 million UAH.
Additionally, there were manipulations involving securing energy facilities from Russian attacks, theft during bridge construction, and unauthorized bonuses for healthcare managers.
The Office of the General Prosecutor has already initiated investigative procedures and filed motions to suspend the suspects from their positions to prevent further abuse and criminal activities.
This extensive corruption activity raises serious concerns about the levels of impunity and systemic distortions within the public administration system.
