Macron Advocates for Expanding Negotiation Formats on Ukraine and European Security
French President Emmanuel Macron recently expressed support for the idea of holding trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia concerning the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
However, he immediately emphasized the need to broaden the format to achieve more comprehensive and effective results, possibly involving other European countries.
Macron stated that establishing security guarantees for Ukraine requires wider discussion and joint efforts, taking into account the security of the entire continent.
He highlighted that within the framework of the so-called ‘Decisive Coalition,’ led by himself alongside British leader Kiar Starmer, mechanisms have already been developed to create security guarantees for Ukraine, including strengthening the Ukrainian military and fulfilling commitments outlined within this coalition.
Macron also supported the idea of a ceasefire, previously voiced by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, stressing that peace negotiations must start with an agreement to stop the violence and killin.
Furthermore, he noted that the negotiation process needs to be expanded further to consider the interests of all European participants, including the European Union, although details are still under development.
It is worth recalling that prior to this, German Chancellor Scholz and former U.S.
President Trump also clashed over different approaches regarding ending the conflict, complicating the search for common solutions.
Macron emphasized the importance of diplomacy and comprehensive guarantees that ensure long-term peace and stability across Europe, advocating for negotiations and legal security commitments to achieve lasting peace in the region.
