The European Union’s chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, emphasized during an online summit of EU leaders that providing Ukraine with reliable security guarantees is of paramount importance for deterring future Russian aggression.

She stated that trusting Russian President Vladimir Putin is inadvisable, given that history and recent events demonstrate that his words and promises cannot be fully relied upon.

Therefore, it is essential to develop comprehensive and resilient security assurances that can effectively prevent any potential military escalation or renewed attack from Russia.

Kallas called on the leaders to formulate and strengthen such mechanisms, aiming to ensure long-term stability and protection for Ukraine.

She stressed that these guarantees must be firm and dependable enough to withstand any attempts at Russian regrouping or offensive resurgence.
