Ukrainian Defenders Achieve Success in Sumy Region and Shift Russian Forces on the Frontline

Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, emphasizes that after prolonged battles and strategic maneuvers, Ukrainian troops managed to inflict significant losses on Russian occupation forces in the Sumy region, despite the fact that the enemy concentrated one of their most formidable formations, composed of marine infantry, paratroopers, and special forces, on this front.
These units attempted breakthroughs but suffered crushing defeats.
In an interview with RBC-Ukraine, Syrskyi reported that over the past two months, Russian forces had not achieved any notable success in this area, and their efforts did not yield the desired results.
Ukrainian soldiers in Sumy region successfully held their positions and managed to recapture several settlements, liberating them from occupation.
Notably, Russian forces completely destroyed the building of the Sumy State University, which is a symbol of the region’s educational and cultural significance.
Syrskyi also pointed out that Russian attempts to advance in the areas of Novokostyantynivka and Stepne ended in total failure; Ukrainian defenders destroyed part of the Russian troops and pushed the remaining forces back across the state border.
He further stated that Ukrainian forces continue their offensive efforts on the Sumy direction, while Russian troops are redeploying units elsewhere on the front, particularly in Zaporizhzhia, aiming to bolster their offensive capabilities there.
Recently, Ukrainian military units liberated several settlements, including Novokostyantynivka (formerly known as Pershe Travnya), Stepne, Besalivka (Bilo-Pilsk community), and Kyndrativka.
In June, defenders successfully liberated Andriivka in Khotynska community, demonstrating once again their resilience in repelling the enemy and regaining control over temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
