Russian Aggressors Deal Devastating Blow to Sumy State University: Buildings Destroyed and City in Crisis

On the night of April 14-15, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Sumy, deploying kamikaze drones and missile strikes that led to the complete destruction of one of the city’s main educational institutions — Sumy State University.
Just moments ago, reports indicated that the attack set one of the university’s buildings ablaze in its entirety.
According to local sources, the fire destroyed valuable academic infrastructure, including offices, laboratories, and even the university library.
Acting Mayor of Sumy, Artem Kobzar, emphasized that the damage was primarily to non-residential structures and, fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries.
Firefighters and university staff are now working tirelessly to save equipment and important documents.
Additionally, another university building was damaged, with windows broken on all floors, and the central library suffered destruction as well.
The city has been in a state of ongoing conflict since April 14, when Russian forces launched two ballistic missiles with cluster munitions aimed at the university’s congress center.
This attack was among the most brutal — at least 35 people died, and more than 100 others were injured.
It is important to note that Sumy State University is among the top educational institutions worldwide, and its destruction represents a significant loss not only for the city but also for the Ukrainian educational sector, which prides itself on high-quality education and scientific achievements.
