Zelensky Proposes Security Guarantee for Ukraine Similar to NATO Article 5 – Discussions Between Trump and Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is advocating for a security guarantee for Ukraine after the war that would function akin to NATO’s Article 5, which enshrines collective defense obligations.
He emphasized that such a guarantee should ensure that an attack on one member state triggers a collective response, providing a robust shield for Ukraine’s security.
This proposal was articulated during a joint press conference in Brussels alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, where Zelensky highlighted the importance of concrete security assurances for lasting stability.
The concept echoes recent discussions between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, where security guarantees outside the framework of NATO were considered, often described as ‘non-NATO Article 5 security guarantees.’
