Revival of Ukrainian Rock Spirit: Supporting Resistance Through Music and Culture

In modern Ukrainian culture, a powerful spirit of unity and resistance is making a strong comeback.
The band ROMAX, in collaboration with famous musician Max Mishchenko, organized a major concert as part of the project “Total: Live,” which became a significant expression of support for Ukrainian military forces, particularly Special Operations, and all Ukrainians residing in temporarily occupied territories.
During the concert, reimagined versions of Ukrainian Cossack and insurgent songs were performed, blending traditional melodies with energetic rock sounds and modern arrangements.
Musicians aimed to make folk creativity more accessible to the youth by infusing classic songs with dynamic rock elements, fostering interest and preserving historical memory.
Guitarist Max Mishchenko emphasized that many of these songs are over two centuries old, yet remain relevant today.
The concert featured performances of songs like “Mother of God March,” “Lenta za lentoyu,” “Our Father Banderа,” “Infantry,” and the original track “Fiery Noose,” written during the early weeks of Ukraine’s fight for independence amid Russia’s full-scale invasion.
This piece was composed by ROMAX guitarist Max Boiko, who currently serves in the “Freedom” battalion within the National Guard.
In his speeches, the musician and soldier called on Ukrainians to support their defenders and believe in Ukraine’s swift return to its borders.
The concert symbolized the resilience and unwavering will of the Ukrainian people—from West to East, North to South.
The energy of resistance conveyed through the band’s music inspires Ukrainians not to give up and to continue fighting for victory.
Meanwhile, the band “Pyrіg і Batіg” also expressed support for the Resistance Movement, a strategic component of the Special Operations Forces tasked with combating Russian occupation through various forms of resistance—military, informational, and psychological.
This movement unites Ukrainians from all regions, committed to defending their homeland.
Age or regional differences are irrelevant; all are striving for victory.

It is worth noting that among the project’s participants are artists from temporarily occupied territories—including Crimea, Donetsk, and Kherson—demonstrating Ukrainian cultural unity and unwavering support for the fight.
Leader of the band “Pyrіg і Batіg,” Maryan Pyrіg, pointed out that despite the difficult circumstances on the front and occupation of parts of the country, Ukrainians remain strong and united.
“Total: Live” is not merely a musical event but a call to all Ukrainians to stand resilient, support one another, and continue fighting for independence and territorial integrity.
The performances by Ukrainian artists carry a message that, regardless of distance or circumstances, solidarity and mutual support are crucial to victory.
This is a reminder that Ukrainian culture and resistance continue, and that the strength of the nation surpasses any trials.
