Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during his recent visit to Brussels, emphasized that the path to resolving territorial issues between Kyiv and Moscow is only possible through direct and open negotiations between the two sides.

He stated that this process should serve as a logical continuation of the first step – a ceasefire, which is a prerequisite for more serious discussions about future peace agreements.

Zelensky highlighted that the time for negotiations should come after establishing a stable ceasefire, as attempts to engage in dialogue during intensified conflict are likely futile. The head of state also pointed out the importance of considering Russia’s demands and conditions during future peace talks, especially since Vladimir Putin’s full list of requirements remains unknown.

According to Zelensky, these demands are substantial and warrant careful deliberation.

He noted that internal pressures within Russia could complicate negotiations and add further obstacles to peace processes.Besides diplomatic efforts, Zelensky stressed the importance of working both at the front and on diplomatic platforms simultaneously.

He reiterated that the contact line remains the most suitable place for negotiations, allowing dialogue directly between both conflict parties.

Importantly, he emphasized that Ukraine’s constitution prohibits concessions regarding its territories, and proposals of territorial exchanges or renunciations are unacceptable.

He further stated that resolving territorial integrity issues can only be achieved through direct dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow with U.S.

participation, although Russia currently shows reluctance towards a trilateral format.Zelensky also highlighted preparations for upcoming negotiations with international partners, in particular with U.S.

President Donald Trump, with whom he is scheduled to meet in Washington on August 18.

During this meeting, he plans to discuss strategic cooperation and the situation surrounding the war.

Additionally, in Brussels, he participated in the gathering of the “Coalition of Willing” leaders — a group of countries supportive of Ukraine’s peace efforts.Furthermore, Zelensky will soon travel to the United States, where he will hold talks with President Trump and meet other leading international political figures to discuss further steps for conflict resolution and Ukraine’s support on the global stage.
