European Leaders Will Accompany Zelensky to the US to Support Ukraine’s Stance

On the eve of a scheduled meeting with US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky will receive backing from his European Union allies.
According to the political news outlet Politico, European leaders, along with senior officials, plan to travel with the Ukrainian president to Washington to bolster his position amid challenging negotiations and to prevent potential conflicts with Trump, known for his unpredictable diplomatic style.
Sources reveal that this move aims to prevent a repeat of situations where Zelensky finds himself in unfavorable conditions or under pressure that could damage his standing and the relations between Ukraine and the US.
The delegation, led by Finnish President Sauli Niinistö, who maintains close ties with Trump, is expected to assist in establishing constructive dialogue.
Additionally, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg may join the delegation, leveraging diplomatic skills and friendly relations with Washington.
During the Washington summit, the EU countries aim to persuade Trump not to agree to concessions that might harm Ukrainian interests, especially regarding territorial cessions to Russia.
Experts express concern over recent US-Russian interactions, notably the summit in Alaska, which raised fears in Europe that the US might tread a conciliatory path toward Moscow, potentially undermining Ukrainian positions.
European diplomats worry that the recent developments signal a tendency to overlook Ukraine’s strategic interests, which could negatively affect regional stability and security.
They hope that Zelensky’s visit to the US will proceed smoothly and without conflicts, reinforcing diplomatic efforts to support Ukraine and safeguard its sovereignty.
The issue of tariffs and sanctions remains sensitive; unfortunately, recent discussions on secondary sanctions for countries purchasing Russian oil have been sidelined, leading to disappointment among European officials.
Analysts warn that upcoming negotiations could test the strength of Ukraine-US relations, emphasizing the importance of European unity and support in maintaining Kyiv’s diplomatic credibility during this turbulent period.
