Europe Against Capitulation: How the EU Aims to Preserve Ukraine’s Integrity and Reject Fake Peace
In light of recent statements and positions from European Union representatives in Ukraine, the true aims and principles guiding the EU amid the Ukraine-Russia conflict once again come into focus.
EU ambassador Kataryna Maternova explicitly stated that Europe will not allow any compromises that involve ceding parts of Ukrainian territory under the guise of ‘peace.’ She emphasized that any efforts leading to Ukraine’s capitulation are unacceptable for the EU and contradict core principles of international law.According to her, Russia’s claims and leader’s proposals that suggest Ukraine relinquish parts of its land are nothing more than dictation and aggression.
European leaders reiterated that peace must be based on respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, without illusions or concessions to the aggressor.
The ambassador pointed out that the presence of American and European leaders in Washington, together with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, aims to demonstrate Western unity and determination to support Ukraine’s independence. She also added that such firm stance ensures that Europe and its allies will never agree to a false peace, which is merely a disguise for Ukrainian capitulation.
‘We seek a genuine peace based on adherence to international norms and Ukraine’s rights,’ emphasized Maternova.
She expressed confidence that coordinated efforts of Western partners will help achieve true stability and security for Ukraine and the region.
