Meloni emphasizes need for collective security guarantees for Ukraine similar to NATO’s Article 5

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed the necessity for Ukraine to receive a comprehensive system of collective security guarantees, enabling Kyiv to seek support from all its partners, including the United States, in case of renewed aggression from Russia.
She highlighted that such guarantees are crucial for ensuring stability and safety for Ukraine amid current geopolitical tensions.
Meloni pointed out that the idea of providing broad security assurances inspired by NATO’s Article 5, which enshrines collective defense, resonates with her country’s position.
She also noted that U.S.
President Donald Trump supported this concept, adopting the Italian initiative.
In the context of negotiations with European countries, she reiterated the united support for Ukraine.
‘The path to peace is not straightforward, but it is the one we must choose,’ she stated.
Meloni added that there are beginning to be signs of potential peace in Ukraine, and although reaching an agreement remains complex, it is ultimately feasible.
According to her, only Ukraine itself can decide on the terms and territorial issues involved.
