Recent reports from Western sources shed light on new stages of diplomatic attempts to find pathways toward ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as well as Moscow’s internal position regarding possible compromises.

According to The New York Times, during a recent conversation between U.S.

and Russian presidents, Vladimir Putin firmly demanded that the Russian language be granted official status in Ukraine and that the safety of the Russian Orthodox Church be secured.

These demands signal Moscow’s intent to use linguistic and religious issues as leverage in diplomatic negotiations.

Furthermore, it is reported that Putin currently refuses to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, citing the illegitimacy of Ukraine’s leadership, which complicates diplomatic efforts further.

Sources reveal that former U.S.

President Donald Trump expressed hope to facilitate a tripartite meeting involving Russia and Ukraine, but Putin has laid down the condition—guarantees of a ceasefire and written assurances to withdraw from occupied territories in Donbas, alongside commitments to cease offensive actions.

Meanwhile, officials indicate that Russia often breaches its written commitments, reducing the prospects of a swift resolution.

European and Ukrainian leaders strongly oppose any concessions allowing Russia to retain control over Donbas territories, especially those critical for defense and resource-rich zones.

Kyiv has publicly stated that any agreement cannot include recognition of permanent territorial transfers, as this would violate the Ukrainian Constitution, making a negotiated settlement more challenging in current circumstances.
