Former U.S.

President Donald Trump, in a recent interview, revealed details about his negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which he claims resulted in an основна угода—an overarching agreement—on resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

According to Trump, during their meeting, both leaders mostly agreed on the possibility of exchanging territories, allowing the war to be brought to a close and establishing a new security framework in the region.

Trump described the talks as warm yet tense, with crucial security issues at the forefront of their discussions. He emphasized that the final decision on Ukraine’s future should be made within Kyiv itself, but pointed out that the United States and the European Union have already provided substantial financial support to Ukraine—approximately 350 billion dollars from the U.S.

and around 100 billion from Europe—potentially exerting external influence and pressure toward reaching a compromise.

Trump expressed surprise that the core questions circle around territorial exchanges and security guarantees, rather than direct military action.

He also noted that his previous calls for diplomacy and negotiations with Putin were met with criticism, but he advocates for such approaches as a means to bring peace and stability to the region if openly discussed and properly implemented. The former president’s stance has sparked widespread debates over the prospects for a peaceful resolution and the role of international diplomacy in settling one of the most complex conflicts in recent history.
