The international community has once again raised urgent concerns over grave human rights violations associated with the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The United Nations, in its annual report, issued a formal warning to Russia that it could be added to a list of countries and entities accused of systematically employing sexual violence as a weapon of war.

Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep alarm regarding reports of brutal incidents of sexual violence allegedly carried out by Russian military forces and law enforcement agencies, targeting Ukrainian prisoners of war in various detention sites within Ukraine and Russia.

According to UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, the extent and brutality of these violations are profoundly disturbing, especially given the lack of adequate access for observers to verify facts and patterns of abuse.

The list of potential violators, besides Russia, also includes Israel, which has further raised international concerns.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized that the report confirms Russia’s active use of sexual violence in the conflict, particularly in temporarily occupied territories and detention centers.

He highlighted the alarming scale and cruelty involved, advocating for stronger sanctions and increased international pressure against Moscow.

The Ukrainian official called on the global community to unite efforts to halt Russia’s aggressive war and secure justice for all victims of these inhumane acts.
