Their Faith and Doubts: How Americans View the Prospects of Resolving the Russia-Ukraine War Under Trump’s Leadership

In the context of current international events and strategic challenges surrounding the Ukraine-Russia conflict, public opinion in the United States continues to become more nuanced and divided.

A recent survey by Pew Research Center, quoted by Politico, reveals that nearly 60% of Americans harbor significant doubts about former President Donald Trump’s ability to make a wise and measured decision regarding the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

According to this research, most Americans lack confidence that Trump can effectively address the conflict, which stands out as one of the bloodiest since World War II.

Notably, trust in the former leader has declined markedly among Republicans as well—only 73% believe he can manage the war, down from 81% in July 2024.

Meanwhile, Democrats tend to support aid to Ukraine and have more confidence in the United States’ capacity to assist Ukraine in this conflict.

Current data also indicate that Americans are now less likely than in March to believe that Trump supports Russia in the war—this shift occurred after Trump’s recent months’ change in rhetoric, becoming increasingly critical of Russia and more skeptical about Moscow’s role in the conflict.
