In a recent telephone conversation, the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, discussed several key issues with the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, which could significantly impact the future diplomatic relations between the two nations.

According to information released on the social network Truth Social, Trump described the discussion as ‘excellent’ and expressed high regard for his contact with the Belarusian leader.

The call took place just before the scheduled meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, adding special importance to the dialogue.Sources close to the president, including the Telegram channel associated with the Belarusian leader, confirmed that Lukashenko expressed his personal interest in continuing dialogue and noted that his meetings with colleagues are crucial for regional stability and security.

Trump responded that the conversation was constructive and covered many relevant topics, including the release of political prisoners in Belarus, notably Tikhonovskaya, and the possibility of meeting with Putin.

He emphasized that the United States is interested in developing normalized relations with Minsk and exploring paths toward diplomatic agreements.Interestingly, this phone contact marked the first-ever direct, albeit indirect, communication between these leaders amid the ongoing political crisis in Belarus.

Experts believe this meeting could initiate a new diplomatic chapter in Belarus-U.S.

relations, opening possibilities for further dialogue and cooperation.Additionally, in the context of political activity, it is noteworthy that on February 12, Lukashenko personally released a U.S.

citizen and two other Belarusian political prisoners from detention.

This move was widely viewed as a step toward signing a new agreement or cooperation pact between Minsk and Washington.

This was also highlighted by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs, Kris Smit, who participated in diplomatic efforts regarding Belarus during the Biden administration.

Smit reported that during his visit to Minsk, he met with Lukashenko and KGB chief Ivan Tertel, confirming an active diplomatic engagement and intentions for potential compromises in the future.
