According to sources and analysts, the United States is considering the imposition of extensive sanctions targeting Russia’s two leading oil corporations—’Rosneft’ and ‘Lukoil’—should the upcoming summit between U.S.

President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, scheduled to take place in Alaska, fail to produce meaningful progress in diplomatic negotiations.

Reports from ‘European Pravda’ citing Bloomberg indicate that these sanctions aim to weaken Moscow’s energy influence by restricting the revenue streams of these major oil giants, which account for nearly half of Russia’s total oil exports—approximately 2.2 million barrels per day in the first half of the year.

Sources emphasize that measures will be implemented gradually to mitigate potential disruptions in global oil markets.

Trump, ahead of the summit, reiterated that any sanctions-related decisions will consider their impact on global energy stability and expressed hope that any restrictions would be temporary.

In addition to targeting oil companies, further measures could include tighter restrictions on Moscow’s shadow oil tanker fleet and new tariffs on oil imports, including from China.

Experts and diplomatic sources warn that these actions could unfold in stages, depending on the outcome of negotiations.

The Russian oil sector—specifically ‘Rosneft’ and ‘Lukoil’—forms a significant part of the country’s economy, responsible for nearly 50% of exports, or about 2.2 million barrels daily.

Prior to the summit, Trump repeatedly warned Putin of severe economic consequences if he fails to end the conflict in Ukraine.

U.S.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin confirmed that the Trump administration intends to keep all options on the table, including tightening or easing sanctions as circumstances develop, signaling its readiness to respond to Russia’s moves concerning Ukraine and other issues.
