In Anchorage, the capital of Alaska, a large-scale public demonstration took place on the eve of the scheduled meeting between U.S.

President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

About a hundred residents gathered on Thursday, August 14, in the city’s downtown area, holding Ukrainian flags and banners with slogans calling for honest negotiations and warning against Russia’s intentions to reassert control over territories it approximately sold to the United States in 1867.

The protesters, representing various age groups, emphasized their solidarity with Ukraine and expressed concerns over Russia’s ongoing disinformation campaigns aimed at undermining Ukrainian sovereignty.

Signs reading “Putin will not stop in Ukraine” and “Alaska with Ukraine” vividly demonstrated their support and drew parallels between the two regions, especially considering Alaska’s historical connection to the U.S.

since its purchase from Russia.

This rally was part of a series of protests planned across Alaska in connection with the upcoming high-level meeting.

The summit, scheduled for August 15 at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base — Alaska’s largest — is expected to begin at 11:00 local time.

Analysts note that the preparations for this summit have turned into a hectic sprint for U.S.

Secret Service agents.

International media suggest that Russia places high hopes on this meeting, although peace is not necessarily one of Moscow’s primary objectives.

Instead, Russian officials aim to use the talks to weaken their international isolation and improve relations with the U.S., while also trying to manipulate the situation to their advantage.

Experts warn that Putin might attempt to deceive Trump during the negotiations to further Russian interests in the region and globally.
