Major Explosion at Russian Reactive Munitions Factory Shakes Regional Security

A significant and tragic incident has occurred at a Russian enterprise specializing in the production of reactive shells for multiple launch rocket systems.
The event took place at the Elastik plant in the Ryazan region, an industrial site previously known for manufacturing aviation ammunition and missile projectiles.
According to initial reports, an explosion occurred in one of the manufacturing workshops, leading to the complete destruction of a substantial part of the building.
At least four workers have lost their lives in this catastrophe.
Russian media sources state that the explosion involved gunpowder, and emergency services indicate that around 20 individuals were injured in the incident.
Regional authorities have reported a fire and dense smoke rising from the plant, with some reports suggesting that there may still be people trapped under the debris.
The incident was registered around 10:30 a.m.
on August 15.
Visual evidence circulating on Russian Telegram channels shows intense fires and huge plumes of smoke enveloping the site.
Reports from Baza suggest that the blast originated in the workshop where gunpowder is produced, likely due to breaches in safety protocols rather than drone attacks.
Official statements remain vague, but the plant, located in the village of Lisove, Shilovsky district of Ryazan, has a troubled history—having filed for bankruptcy in 2015 and gradually ceasing operations.
Historically, the plant has produced military equipment, such as aviation shells and missile munitions, but now its future faces uncertainty amid rumors of hazardous conditions and potential dangers to nearby communities.
