Kellogg skips Alaska trip over Russia’s stance: analysis of the situation and implications

Special US Presidential Envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, due to political circumstances and Russia’s position, decided not to participate in the planned US delegation at the summit scheduled in Alaska.

The summit was set to include talks between former President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

According to high-level sources within the Trump administration, Kellogg’s absence is linked to his known support for Ukraine, which, given Russia’s perception, could complicate or derail the meeting with the Russian delegation.

Russia perceives his active stance as supportive of Ukrainian interests, making his presence potentially counterproductive.

Trump officials assure that Kellogg’s absence does not pose serious diplomatic risks.

They highlight that Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who previously described Putin as a war criminal, remains firm in his approach toward Russia.

Concerns also arise over Kellogg’s exclusion from the official delegation, although he is regarded as an influential figure regarding Ukrainian issues, particularly because of his deep understanding of possible scenarios and Ukraine’s strategic options.

There is speculation that Kellogg might be included in future delegations for upcoming US-Russia-Ukraine negotiations.

Meanwhile, Trump has already flown to Alaska, where he had a phone conversation with Belarusian self-proclaimed President Alexander Lukashenko and declared he would not negotiate on behalf of Ukraine regarding territorial issues, further emphasizing the complex political landscape.
