Amid intense political debates and ongoing international developments, a survey conducted by Pew Research Center reveals significant divisions among Americans concerning former President Donald Trump and his stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Ahead of Trump’s scheduled meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, the poll indicates that a majority of respondents lack confidence in his ability to make balanced and prudent decisions in the delicate realm of the Ukraine war.

Only 40% of Americans express some level of trust in him, while 59% remain skeptical about his capacity to handle this issue without bias.Of particular interest is the fact that 33% of those surveyed believe Trump is overly supportive of Russia, whereas 28% think he tries to maintain a neutral stance.

A small percentage—6%—believes he favors Ukraine more.

About one-third (32%) remain undecided on his position. The survey also highlights differing opinions about U.S.

support for Ukraine: 29% of Americans feel the U.S.

provides insufficient aid, while 18% believe aid is excessive.

Political polarization is also evident: nearly half of Democrats (48%) support increased assistance to Kyiv, compared to only 11% of Republicans.

The question of U.S.

responsibility in defending Ukraine also divides opinion: 50% see it as a duty, while 47% do not.Regarding the threat posed by Russia’s invasion to U.S.

interests, 31% consider it a significant threat, another 31% see it as a moderate risk, and only 11% dismiss it as a minor concern.

The survey was conducted from August 4 to 10 among 3,554 adult Americans.

These findings underscore growing public concern over U.S.

policy and its approach to Russia and Ukraine.

Earlier polling by Quinnipiac in March showed that 55% of Americans disapproved of Trump’s actions regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with only 38% approving.

The Telegraph comments that Trump seems to be increasingly aligning with Putin’s stance, refusing to condemn Russia’s invasion and blaming Ukraine instead.
