Ukrainian Politicians Confirm Firm Stance on Territorial Integrity and Rejection of Land Swaps with Russia

Recent news highlights ongoing debates surrounding former U.S.
President Donald Trump’s proposal for a potential land exchange between Ukraine and Russia.
Ukrainian politicians and experts consistently emphasize that any attempts to alter borders, especially through agreements or negotiations, are strictly unacceptable under Ukrainian law and international law.
Member of Parliament Fedir Venislavskyi explained on Radio Liberty that the Ukrainian Constitution explicitly prohibits any actions that could lead to changes in territorial integrity.
According to Articles 1 and 3 of the Constitution, Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial unity are inviolable.
Even the Law on All-Ukrainian Referendum contains provisions forbidding voting on issues that would reduce the country’s territory.
Venislavskyi stressed that any scenario involving territorial exchanges or transfers directly conflicts not only with national legislation but also with international legal standards, constituting a clear violation of international norms.
Ukraine has identified several core directions for peaceful resolution of the conflict, primarily focusing on regaining control over occupied territories through negotiations or military means.
Any idea of exchanging or ceding territories, even temporarily occupied ones, remains categorically unacceptable to Ukrainian authorities.
Politicians affirm that any steps aimed at legally or politically decreasing Ukraine’s territory violate international treaties and norms.
Such actions would be considered violations of international law with potentially severe repercussions.
The recent remarks made by Trump and other international developments have heightened interest and concern about Ukraine’s sovereignty, especially regarding potential concessions or high-level negotiations.
Ukraine remains resolute in its position that any drastic changes to borders are unacceptable, emphasizing the need to protect the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty under all circumstances.
