Former US President Donald Trump made a surprising statement during a recent briefing at the White House, drawing significant public and expert attention.

According to him, had he not held the presidency, Vladimir Putin’s Russia might have seized the entire Ukraine, threatening not only the sovereignty of our nation but also regional stability in Europe.

Trump emphasized that responsibility for the war in Ukraine lies with all involved parties, not just Russia, and highlighted that the primary goal now is to halt the bloodshed and prevent further erosion of peace in the region.Regarding the upcoming meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin scheduled for August 15, the ex-president stated that the summit in Alaska should not be seen as a reward for Russia.

Instead, its main purpose should be finding ways to end the war and save thousands of soldiers and civilians who are dying or getting injured every week.

Trump is working to reduce tensions and aims for peace, which he believes is entirely achievable if both sides are willing to compromise. He also mentioned that he plans to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as well.

According to Trump, future negotiations will involve direct talks with each leader, with the possibility of European leaders joining the discussion, though he does not guarantee their participation.

“We are striving for peace, and I believe both Putin and Zelenskyy want it too.

However, I admit that it is still difficult to predict exactly how these negotiations will unfold,” he added.Addressing why Russia failed to quickly take Kyiv, the politician pointed out the resilience of the Ukrainian people and the efforts of the international community.

He noted that Putin’s plans to seize Ukraine were overestimated and that the resistance turned out to be stronger and more persistent than expected.

Trump also said that if the meeting with Putin proves to be ‘bad,’ it will conclude swiftly, primarily to avoid further escalation.

In his view, the easiest way would be to end the war, but in practice, this has proven to be one of the most complicated challenges today.
