On August 14, Ukrainian military forces carried out another daring operation targeting one of Russia’s largest oil refining facilities — the Lukoil Volgograd Oil Refinery.

This attack marked the third in a series of strikes aimed at Russian energy infrastructure, further disrupting the country’s capacity to sustain its military efforts.

Located in the city of Volgograd, this plant processes over 15 million tons of oil annually, accounting for approximately 5.6% of Russia’s total oil processing.According to the Ukrainian General Staff, the night-time assault resulted in a massive fire, causing severe damage to the plant’s infrastructure.

Russian authorities reported drone attacks across Volgograd, targeting vital facilities, notably the refinery.

International reports highlighted that this refinery is a crucial producer of fuel and lubricants in the southern part of Russia. This represents the third strike against the Volgograd refinery — previously, in January and February of last year, Ukrainian drones attacked the facility, forcing it to temporarily cease operations.

These ongoing efforts by Ukrainian forces exemplify their strategic goal to weaken Russia’s logistical and energy capabilities, aiming to hasten its defeat and reduce its military feasibility.
