Russia ramps up disinformation campaign against Ukraine ahead of Trump-Putin summit

As the scheduled meeting between U.S.
President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin takes place in Alaska, Russian media have intensified efforts to shape a negative image of Ukraine.
In the lead-up to this summit, the Kremlin has launched a large-scale propaganda operation aimed at discrediting the Ukrainian government and military.
Russian outlets are blatantly accusing Ukraine of violations of international humanitarian law, disseminating false claims about Ukrainian attacks on civilian populations within Russia, and alleging plans to provoke incidents with the involvement of Western media.
Particular focus is given to reports of Ukrainian military concentrations near the borders and the alleged destruction of Ukrainian “Sapsan” missiles used in strikes against Moscow, Minsk, and strategic targets inside Russia—claims denied by Kyiv.
The FSB spreads fakes claiming that Ukraine planned missile strikes on Moscow and Minsk using these weapons, supposedly with NATO’s consent.
According to analysts at the Disinformation Countermeasure Center, the primary goal of these manipulations is to reduce international support for Ukraine, portray it as a terrorist state, and justify Russia’s refusal to engage in peace negotiations or ceasefire initiatives.
Furthermore, earlier reports indicated that Vladimir Putin is preparing “historical materials” for Donald Trump to prove that Ukraine is an artificially created state formed from territories of other nations, aiming to justify Russia’s military actions through supposed territorial maps that allegedly support Kremlin claims.
