Hungarian Foreign Minister Condemns Ukraine’s Attacks on Russia’s Energy Infrastructure, Threatening National Security

Peter Szijjarto, Hungary’s Foreign Minister, expressed his strong disapproval and concern over the recent drone strike by Ukraine targeting the Unblock oil pumping station in Bryansk region, Russia, which occurred on the evening of August 12.
This facility is a crucial node in the ‘Druzhba’ pipeline system, a vital route for oil supplies to countries including Hungary, and plays a key role in the region’s energy security.
Szijjarto emphasized that such attacks jeopardize Hungary’s energy stability, as the ‘Druzhba’ pipeline is integral to Russian military logistics, bypassing Ukraine.
Additionally, the minister highlighted Hungary’s role as a major electricity supplier to Ukraine, warning that without these supplies, the neighboring country’s energy stability could be significantly compromised.
In his Facebook post, Szijjarto called for Ukraine to cease attacks on critical infrastructure, stressing that such actions undermine regional peace and stability.
The incident occurs amid reports of a large fire at an oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, with no official Russian response yet.
Ukrainian military authorities confirmed that drones targeted the Unucha station, which transports up to 60 million tons of crude annually, impacting Russian military operations.
The rising escalation in the region raises concerns over persistent attacks on vital infrastructure, complicating energy and security dynamics in Eastern Europe and beyond.
