Amidst the unstable situation surrounding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced new statements by U.S.

President Donald Trump that could potentially alter the diplomatic course of events.

On August 13, during large-scale online discussions with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump openly declared his intention to demand an unconditional ceasefire from Vladimir Putin across all Ukrainian territories.

According to the French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barré, during his address to the Ukrainian delegation and European partners, the U.S.

president emphasized that any negotiations concerning territorial return would only be possible with the presence of Ukrainian leadership and under strict diplomatic conditions.

An integral part of this renewed diplomatic strategy, supported by the U.S.

and its allies, involves establishing an international security guarantees system, created with the participation of France, the UK, and Germany, Barré added.

Background of the conflict: On August 13, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Berlin, where he held a series of discussions with European leaders and, together with them and President Trump, participated in video conferences.

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that territorial issues would not be subject to negotiations with anyone except Ukraine, specifically with its leader Zelensky.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized Ukraine’s readiness to discuss territorial matters, but only along the frontline line, without the possibility of legal recognition of occupied territories, which remains outside the scope of current discussions.

Zelensky also noted that after his meeting with Putin in Alaska, Trump promised to call him to discuss further steps in the diplomatic process.
