Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently confirmed that the United States, specifically President Donald Trump, expressed strong support for security guarantees for Ukraine and called for a cessation of hostilities.

During a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin, Zelensky stated that all participating leaders desire to bring a united message to Moscow — an immediate halt to aggression and the establishment of peace in the region.

According to Zelensky, Trump during a separate call in Alaska assured that a firm and collective stance is needed — stopping the war is crucial.

It is also important to highlight that the American leader emphasized the importance of sanctions as a tool to pressure Russia and to strengthen diplomatic negotiations.

Zelensky added that his discussions with European colleagues and Trump were focused on preparing for upcoming talks with Vladimir Putin.

He stressed that sanctions remain a key instrument in exerting pressure and should be applied if Russia refuses to cease fire — a clear and understandable message.

Zelensky pointed out that unity and strength are essential in responding to breakthroughs by occupying forces, as Ukrainian military and allies remain steadfast, seeking peaceful resolution but unwilling to weaken their positions.

The discussions also covered the prospects of additional sanctions against Russia, which, according to Antony Bessant, have a significant impact on the Russian economy and military potential.

Despite skepticism about the success of negotiations, Ukraine maintains firm positions and does not believe in a swift resolution without significant concessions from the other side.
