According to sources within the Kremlin and North Korean agencies, shortly before the planned summit on Alaska between the US and Russian presidents, Vladimir Putin engaged in a phone conversation with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The main topics discussed were the ongoing war in Ukraine, global security concerns, and potential future alliances.

KCNA reports that during the call, Putin expressed gratitude for North Korea’s support for Russia’s actions in Ukraine, and both sides exchanged views on key issues affecting their national interests.

The Kremlin noted that the conversation took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, highlighting its role in preparing for the upcoming US summit.

Kim Jong Un reaffirmed North Korea’s commitment to the treaties with Russia and its support for all decisions made by the Russian leadership.

An important aspect of their cooperation is the mutual defense pact, which was reinstated during Putin’s visit to Pyongyang in June 2024.

This agreement provides for military assistance in the event of an attack on either country and signifies a deepening of military cooperation.

Western analysts are concerned that such collaboration could significantly enhance the military capabilities of both regimes, potentially affecting the global security landscape.

Diplomatic officials in the US and Europe urge cautious monitoring of this development, as increased cooperation between Russia and North Korea may escalate tensions and complicate international efforts for stability.

Experts emphasize that these talks strengthen both regimes’ influence on the global stage, further asserting their roles as key players in current geopolitics.
