On Wednesday, August 13, a significant virtual meeting is scheduled among top American officials and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as part of intense international negotiations.

Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence are expected to engage with Ukraine’s leader and European representatives amid signs of Russia’s openness to dialogue and possible compromises related to the ongoing war.

According to sources confirmed by ABC News, the video conference is set for Wednesday and is seen as a crucial step before upcoming summits and diplomatic rounds.

Meanwhile, Kyiv indicates that there is a high likelihood of renewed military escalation, as President Vladimir Putin continues to prepare for potential offensive operations despite the peace summit scheduled for Friday in Alaska.

Zelensky has highlighted that fierce fighting at the frontlines, drone strikes, and long-range missile attacks persist, complicating diplomatic efforts.

Sources suggest Ukrainian officials are currently cautious about active participation in the meeting, although Kyiv’s office notes the situation remains highly fluid.

Historically, the Alaska summit between the US and Russia on August 15 could be a key moment in conflict resolution efforts.

European allies urge against unilateral territorial concessions and emphasize that any agreement must include security guarantees and respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Defense analyst George Barros from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) states that Moscow shows little willingness to compromise, and the upcoming US-Russia talks are unlikely to alter the tense and unpredictable landscape of the Ukraine conflict.
