Major Online Leaders’ Meeting Ahead of Crucial Diplomatic Talks

On Wednesday, August 13, at 12:00 GMT (3:00 PM Kyiv time), a significant virtual summit of top European leaders, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and U.S.

President Donald Trump is scheduled to take place.

This online forum is organized just prior to Trump’s scheduled meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, set for August 15 at a military base in Anchorage.

The purpose of this coordination is to prevent potential negative outcomes and present a united European and Ukrainian stance regarding upcoming negotiations and possible agreements.

European policymakers express concern over the possibility of unfavorable deals that could weaken Ukraine and set dangerous precedents for the region.

The uncertainty surrounding the scope of the U.S.-Russia negotiations raises fears that decisions may ignore Ukrainian interests.

Separate online meetings involving NATO officials and high-level government representatives are planned to reinforce unity and demonstrate Europe’s firm position in defending Ukraine’s sovereignty and regional security.

Kyiv insists that any agreements excluding Ukraine are unacceptable, emphasizing that its sovereignty and territorial integrity must remain central to diplomatic discussions.

The agenda focuses on maintaining Ukraine’s territorial integrity and avoiding concessions that may allow Russia to make further advances.

The plans include two separate formats: one with Trump and Vice President Pence, and another with a broader group of European leaders, including Germany’s chancellor, France’s president, UK’s prime minister, and other EU representatives.

Ukraine stresses that territorial issues should be addressed only after a ceasefire is secured and security guarantees are provided.

Analysts highlight that the current political climate suggests significant risks — including the possibility of agreements favoring Russia and reducing European support for Ukraine.

Post-meeting, participants are expected to share their positions and strategic visions, with potential scenarios for the region’s future being discussed.
