July Becomes Deadliest Month for Ukraine’s Civilian Population Since the War Began: Record Losses and Devastation

According to a recent UN report, July this year marked one of the most devastating months in the history of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with tragic rises in civilian casualties.

The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine released alarming figures showing that at least 1,674 civilians were harmed last month, including 286 deaths and 1,388 injuries.

This represents nearly a 30% increase compared to the previous month and sets a record since May 2022.Most of the casualties occurred in territories controlled by the Ukrainian government along the frontline, reflecting the intensity of the fighting and the Russian military’s attempts to retain seized territories.

The use of aerial bombs caused the most significant civilian losses—67 deaths and over 200 wounded this month.Drones operating within close range of targets ranked second, accounting for 24% of all incidents, with 64 killed and 337 wounded from drone strikes.

Civilian casualties were reported across 18 regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv, highlighting the widespread scale of destruction and human suffering.The night of July 9 was particularly devastating, as Russian forces launched a large-scale air attack, releasing 741 drones and rockets, including ballistic missiles.

Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down 718 enemy targets, but the destruction and loss of life remain substantial.

These figures underscore the ongoing resilience of Ukraine’s defenders who continue to counter the aggression and work tirelessly to save lives amid the chaos.
