Recent survey results from the United Kingdom highlight the significance of high-level diplomatic negotiations between the US and Russia, with particular focus on the potential implications for Ukraine.

According to the findings, about half of the British respondents — precisely 50% — believe that a peace treaty signed between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin would be more beneficial for Russia than for Ukraine.

Only 5% think that Ukraine would benefit more from such an agreement.

Meanwhile, 21% hope that it would lead to a compromise for both sides, while 24% are uncertain about the advantages for either Russia or Ukraine. The demographic most inclined to see mutual gains from such a treaty consists of older adults, with those aged 65 and above and those between 50 and 64 showing the highest percentages.

Among those undecided, women constitute 33%, whereas male respondents account for only 15%.

The survey, conducted on August 12 with 4,356 adult British participants, provides valuable insights into public opinion about international diplomacy. In the context of growing global diplomatic tension, plans are underway for a high-level meeting involving the leaders of the United States, Ukraine, and Russia — Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky, and Vladimir Putin.

The summit is scheduled for August 15 in Alaska.

Analysts have warned that Russian President Putin might attempt to deceive his American counterpart once again, raising concerns among Ukrainian and European officials.

The meeting’s rushed preparation has added to fears that it may not produce significant breakthroughs but could serve as a step toward peace negotiations and conflict resolution in Ukraine. While media reports suggest that the upcoming talks are unlikely to deliver a breakthrough, many see this summit as an essential step toward finding pathways to peace and stability, despite the unresolved complexities and potential risks involved in such high-stakes diplomatic encounters.
