European Union and U.S. Show Unified Support for Ukraine and Upcoming Russia Talks

On Wednesday, August 13, the European Commission, led by Ursula von der Leyen, made significant statements indicating a strengthening of the joint position of Europe, the United States, and NATO regarding the Ukraine situation.
The Commission president expressed optimism about recent negotiations with European leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S.
President Donald Trump.
She emphasized that such contacts promote unity and collective efforts to support Ukraine and seek a long-term peaceful resolution.
Von der Leyen described the talks as ‘highly productive’ and underscored that Europe, the U.S., and NATO share a common goal—stabilizing Ukraine and further strengthening transatlantic cooperation.
Zelensky, in turn, reported that discussions included the possibility of a summit between U.S.
and Russian leaders in Alaska, scheduled for August 15.
Particular attention was drawn to Trump’s statement that, after the Alaska meeting, ‘there will be contact’ with the Russian leadership.
While the U.S.
president remains optimistic and expects positive outcomes, he also acknowledges the possibility of negative results.
Meanwhile, several countries emphasized that any decisions regarding Ukraine must involve Ukrainian leadership, as making such decisions without Ukraine’s participation is unacceptable and risky for the country’s future.
