In his statement, UK Prime Minister Kerr Starmer expressed confidence that the efforts of American leader Donald Trump have opened a unique window of opportunity to bring an end to the prolonged Russia-Ukraine conflict.

During the meeting of the ‘Decisive Coalition’, he emphasized the need for security guarantees and a solid political framework to ensure a sustainable peace.

Starmer highlighted that an upcoming summit between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, scheduled for August 15, could be a pivotal moment in seeking a diplomatic resolution.

He personally conveyed to Trump that the war has been ongoing for over three and a half years, and so far, there has been no effective way to cease hostilities.

Therefore, he considers this period ‘critically important,’ urging leaders to combine active diplomacy, military support for Ukraine, and pressure on Russia.

Moreover, Starmer noted that progress has already been made, especially regarding security guarantees for Ukraine, which increases the chances of a peaceful resolution.

French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that during extensive negotiations with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, it was emphasized that territorial issues are not subject to discussion with anyone except Ukraine and its leadership.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz shared insights into the positions discussed with Trump, including Ukraine’s readiness to negotiate territorial matters based on the de facto front line, while emphasizing that legal recognition of occupied territories is not currently on the agenda.

Ukrainian President Zelensky added that talks have also touched on the potential meeting of U.S.

and Russian leaders in Alaska on August 15, with Trump proposing ongoing contact afterward.

This diplomatic phase, according to Zelensky, could influence the future development of the Ukrainian-Russian conflict and help achieve long-lasting peace.
