Ukrainian Drones Disrupt Russian Oil Infrastructure: Closure of One of the Largest Oil Refineries in Saratov

Following a series of targeted strikes by Ukrainian drones, the energy sector in Russia continues to face unpredictable and significant challenges.
The latest development involves the suspension of operations at a major oil refinery in Saratov, owned by the Russian company “Rosneft.” This disruption occurred after a drone attack that sharply affected the refinery’s production process and fuel supplies, potentially causing substantial impacts on the domestic market, especially amid the seasonal surge in gasoline demand.
According to reports, the Saratov oil refinery, with a processing capacity of approximately 140,000 barrels per day, is a critical component of regional and national fuel security.
The incident raises concerns about supply stability and is likely to lead to further increases in gasoline prices, which have already reached record levels in Russia due to recent attacks.
Prior drone strikes have caused partial or complete shutdowns at other strategic refineries across Russia, including those in Ryazan and Novokuibyshevsk.
Last week, another attack resulted in a fire at the Afipsky refinery in Krasnodar Krai.
These events threaten not only the energy infrastructure but also exacerbate the problem of rising fuel prices.
Restrictions on exports have failed to prevent fuel shortages, further complicating access to gasoline for consumers and industries alike.
The Ukrainian drone offensive represents a major challenge to Russia’s energy stability, raising alarms about supply security and economic resilience amid ongoing hostilities.
This underscores the need for enhanced strategies and measures to safeguard critical energy infrastructure in the context of current conflicts.
