Saratov Oil Refinery Shutdown: Drone Attack’s Impact amid Geopolitical Tensions

In the Russian city of Saratov, an important industrial hub on the Volga region, a significant event has taken place — the oil refinery operated by Rosneft has been forced to cease operations.

The shutdown was triggered by a large-scale drone attack that occurred on Sunday, causing disruptions to the plant’s production.

According to informed sources within the industry, this refinery is the third facility in the region to sustain substantial damage from drone strikes within the past month.

This incident is unfolding amidst heightened tensions, as the timing coincides with an upcoming high-level meeting between U.S.

President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, amid ongoing hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.The Saratov oil refinery, situated in the largest economic center of the Volga region, boasts a projected capacity of approximately 140,000 barrels per day.

Recent events threaten to cause serious disruptions in domestic fuel supplies, especially with the seasonal increase in demand for gasoline and other petroleum products.

It is also known that on the night of August 9-10, drones attacked the facility, igniting a large fire that engulfed part of the plant.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed that they conducted a nighttime drone strike on the Saratov refinery, targeting the site amidst international and political repercussions of this action.
