Russia Strengthens Reserves at Pokrovsk Sector: Replacing Worn-Out Units and New Formations Arrive

In eastern Ukraine, particularly in the area around Pokrovsk, Russian forces continue active combat operations, significantly altering the strategic dynamics on the front line.

According to Ukrainian military sources, Russian troops are substantially increasing their reserves in this sector, executing replacements of exhausted units that have become unable to effectively hold their positions.

The 7th Air Assault Corps of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reports that a new formation, called the BARS volunteer brigade, has entered the area south of Pokrovsk.

Officially established in 2024, this ‘volunteer’ unit predominantly comprises individuals from what Kyiv labels as less trustworthy or problematic segments of Russian society.

Notably, these new formations arrive without heavy equipment or weaponry, with their primary mission being the replacement of worn-out assault groups that previously operated in this critical region.

Ukrainian troops have also noted that fighters from the ‘Azov’ regiment have secured a key defensive line on this especially challenging sector of the front.

Military personnel humorously comment that the previous units of these ‘volunteers’ now rest in their deepest ‘reserve’ positions — buried in the ground, in trenches and dugouts, symbolizing their readiness for the ongoing fight.

Earlier reports mention Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi ordering additional forces to locate and eliminate Russian sabotage groups infiltrating Ukrainian defenses in this area, a move emphasizing the increasing tension and strategic importance of defending this vital front.

This situation underscores Ukraine’s efforts to bolster its defenses and counteract the enemy’s attempts to penetrate its lines across the eastern front, particularly in the Donetsk region.
