Large-Scale Breakthrough on the Frontline: Threats and Prospects for Ukraine

The Ukrainian informational space is once again filled with alarming warnings regarding the potential for a large-scale breakthrough by Russian troops, which could dramatically alter the current situation on the frontlines.

Taras Chmut, head of the charitable foundation «Return Alive», issued a caution about possible developments that threaten the stability of Ukraine’s defense.

According to him, ongoing events in Donetsk, where Russian forces have already breached certain sections of the front line, reflect miscalculations made over the past year and a half, warnings which experts issued back then.

He emphasized that if Russian armored units manage to penetrate deep into Ukrainian positions’ rear, the frontline could start shifting back daily, spanning dozens — or even hundreds — of square kilometers.

Such a scenario, he warns, could resemble the situation in 2022, when advances by the enemy significantly changed the battlefield landscape.

Chmut detailed that Russian forces are accumulating considerable military personnel and equipment, preparing for concerted offensive operations.

He described how Ukrainian troops initially suffer setbacks at platoon and company levels, then battalions, and eventually, if the enemy employs large numbers of armored units, Ukrainian defenses could be pushed toward encirclement.

«If these armored groups break through into our rear and manage to penetrate our defenses, we could face a situation where the front line rapidly recedes into our territory, similar to the events of 2022.

This is a serious threat that cannot be ignored,» he warns.

Chmut urges everyone to support Ukraine’s Defense Forces by all possible means, as ignoring the gravity of the situation may only deepen the crisis.

Meanwhile, Russia is transferring additional troops and military hardware to two key sectors in Zaporizhzhia, complicating the situation further and increasing the risk of escalation.

Experts note that the current tense situation, including recent battles around Pokrovsk and Mrynograd, may lead Ukraine into a losing position not just strategically, but also in terms of military control.

The ongoing intensification of hostilities, infrastructure destruction, and escalating casualties highlight the pressing need for continuous resilience and comprehensive preparedness for various potential scenarios.
