Growing Ukrainian Trust in the US Amid Political Tensions and International Challenges

Against the backdrop of current international tensions and ongoing conflict between the US and Russia, Ukrainian society is increasingly reassessing its global alliances.

According to data from the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), at the end of July and beginning of August, there was a significant rise in the number of Ukrainians who perceive the United States as a reliable ally amid ongoing hardships.

While only 32% of Ukrainians considered the US a dependable partner in May-June, this figure increased to 42% by early August.

This shift indicates that changes in US policy, notably a more objective stance on the war and proposals for its resolution, are positively influencing public opinion in Ukraine.

However, survey results also reveal some uncertainty regarding American policies, especially concerns about their impact on Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Meanwhile, trust in European support remains stable — over 60% of Ukrainians continue to view European countries as trustworthy partners striving for a peaceful resolution.

Regional differences show a slight decrease in confidence from West to East, but overall, Ukrainians still value Europe’s assistance.

Since February 2022, societal moods have also been affected by internal displacement and temporary occupations, adding complexity to public perceptions.

In summary, despite numerous challenges and a tense political climate, Ukrainian attitudes toward Western partners, particularly the US, demonstrate resilience and signs of renewed trust and support.
