Zelensky and Modi discuss sanctions policies and prospects for peace in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky engaged in a detailed and significant phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they extensively discussed international support for Ukraine amid its ongoing fight against Russian aggression, as well as sanctions measures against Russia.
Zelensky reported that during the call, he informed his Indian counterpart about recent Russian military attacks, including the shelling of a bus station in Zaporizhzhia, which resulted in dozens of casualties and injured civilians.
He emphasized that these targeted strikes on civilian infrastructure demonstrate Moscow’s disregard for human life and peace, especially at a time when diplomatic avenues for resolving the conflict have opened.
Zelensky also pointed out that instead of showing readiness for peace talks and ceasing hostilities, Russia perpetuates its desire to continue occupation and violence.
An important part of the discussion focused on sanctions, particularly measures aimed at restricting the export of Russian energy resources, such as oil, to diminish Russia’s financial capacity to sustain its war efforts.
The Ukrainian leader stressed that every influential leader should act decisively and send clear signals to Moscow regarding the unacceptable continuation of the conflict.
Overall, Zelensky expressed gratitude to India for its support of Ukraine’s pursuit of peace and reaffirmed the importance of making decisions that respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and interests.
