Sumy Region Authorities Intensify Efforts to Combat Russian Drones to Protect Civil Infrastructure

Over the past month, more than 200 hostile military drones have been shot down across the Sumy region, highlighting the concerted efforts of local forces in countering Russian aggression.
Oleg Grigorov, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported via Telegram that nearly half of these destroyed drones were intercepted thanks to the coordinated work of territorial defense units and volunteer formations actively assisting the state in airspace defense.
Defensive measures are strategically vital, especially as Russian forces continue systematic missile and drone attacks aimed at destroying civilian infrastructure, with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) remaining one of the primary threats to the region.
To bolster air defense, the region recently received several technical assets, including a four-wheel-drive pickup truck for a drone battalion, ground control stations for UAV units from volunteer formations, and 100 combat drones for quick reaction units (DShV) and special operations forces (OSB).
Regional authorities emphasize that support is provided through donations, local businesses, and subsidies from the regional budget.
On August 10, a wheat field in the Sumy district caught fire following a drone attack, further understating the critical need for enhanced security measures.
