Over 100 Former European Parliament Members Urge EU to Suspend Israel Association Agreement Amid War Crime Allegations

More than a hundred former members of the European Parliament have issued an open appeal to the EU leadership, urging the suspension of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Israel.

In their statement, they expressed deep concern over the situation in Gaza and warned that without decisive action from the EU, member states risk becoming complicit in war crimes due to their passive stance on the ongoing conflict.

The open letter was signed by ex-MEPs representing a broad political spectrum, including members of the European Conservatives and Reformists group, the European People’s Party, Greens, the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, as well as liberal and centrist organizations.

The signatories call for immediate diplomatic and economic measures, including halting cooperation with Israel amid reports of mass hunger strikes and serious violations of fundamental human rights, which are breaches of international agreements, including those governing humanitarian collaboration.

Although the European Commission recently suggested suspending Israel’s participation in Horizon Europe programs, the signatories believe stronger, more immediate actions are necessary.

They emphasize that Israeli policies such as blocking humanitarian aid and organizing hunger strikes in Gaza could be classified as war crimes, requiring urgent suspension of the association agreement.

As regional security deteriorates and the humanitarian crisis worsens, they urge EU authorities to act decisively to promote peace and mitigate further violence.
