Markarova: The US Will Engage in Talks with Russia from a Position of Strength to Halt Aggression

Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, expressed her firm conviction that during upcoming negotiations with Russia, the United States will act from a position of assertive strength.
She emphasized that Ukraine considers this approach crucial, as it aligns with the country’s interests and the protection of its sovereignty.
In her interviews with CBS News and on her Facebook page, Markarova highlighted the importance of the US demonstrating a firm and unwavering stance at this critical juncture to achieve the desired outcome — stopping Russian aggression.
She mentioned that the entire Ukrainian nation prays for President Donald Trump’s success, hoping that his efforts will maximize effectiveness in negotiations and employ all available tools to halt the invasion.
“We sincerely hope that the pressure measures, including sanctions and secondary sanctions against those aiding Russia, will persuade Putin that the time has come to cease hostilities and return to diplomacy,” the diplomat stated.
Regarding borders and buffer zones, she pointed out that the concept of buffer zones is outdated and no longer applicable: “Old strategies designed for the last century are no longer relevant today.
The real frontline runs through eastern and southern Ukraine, and the key question is where exactly this line will be — within our territory, at the borders, or in Europe and worldwide, as it will directly influence the future of democracy and security in many regions,” she emphasized.
Markarova also stressed that contemporary conflict is about more than just land — it is a battle for principles and values: “Europe, the US, and the entire world need to determine where their red lines are and what price they are willing to pay to defend democratic ideals.
Sanctions already in place and those to come are essential tools for maintaining peace and stability.
The US acts from a position of strength in this struggle because peace through strength is the only way to stop Russia’s aggression.
This gives us a collective chance to find a path to end the conflict,” the ambassador added on Facebook.
Furthermore, she shared that during her regular interviews in the US, she has, for the first time in years of active media engagement, brought the Ukrainian Constitution into the studio — a symbol of the values and rights enshrined in our state, once again highlighting that principles are the foundation of our independence.
