Kherson under threat of new shelling: evacuation of Korabel neighborhood residents continues despite danger
The city of Kherson remains in a tense security situation, especially in the Korabel district, which has been repeatedly subjected to Russian shelling.
Due to these attacks, residents are being evacuated en masse to safeguard their lives and health.
The latest data shows that over 1,500 residents have already been evacuated since the beginning of the operation, including mobility-impaired persons and children.
Kherson Military Civil Administration head Yaroslav Shanko reports that on August 10 alone, 29 people left the blockaded area, including two with limited mobility, highlighting the humanitarian crisis severity.
Evacuated residents are provided with accommodation, necessary assistance, and documentation to obtain internally displaced persons status.
If needed, free transportation to safer regions of Ukraine is arranged.
Currently, a total of 1,565 residents are in safety, among them 56 children and 152 persons with limited mobility.
This situation underscores the serious humanitarian and security crisis in the region.
The region continues facing active hostilities, especially Russian strikes on critical infrastructure like bridges and residential areas.
Recently, Russian forces targeted the Korabel district and the bridge across the Dnipro River, signaling possible escalation.
The local authorities have expanded the mandatory evacuation zone to include not only Korabel but also districts like Yantarny and streets closer to the Dnipro.
Analysts and military experts believe that these strikes on vital targets might be attempts by Russians to create a foothold for landing operations or to retake the city, although official statements deny such intentions.
Despite these developments, Ukrainian defense forces remain confident in their ability to resist and prevent the full occupation of Kherson.
It is worth noting that Russian forces previously bombed the city using aerial bombs, adding to the tense situation.
Daily, there are numerous assaults on the island zone at the Dnipro’s estuary, which could lead to further escalation and a possible large-scale enemy offensive if the circumstances align unfavorably.
