Extreme Heat, Droughts, and Weather Anomalies: Forecast for the Upcoming Weeks in Ukraine

Recent days across Ukraine have been marked by unusual weather phenomena — intense heat and drought, alarming many regions.
According to meteorologists, particularly Igor Kibalchich, a high-pressure anticyclone system is expected to establish itself in the latter half of August, bringing clear skies, rising temperatures, and no precipitation across most of the country.
This weather pattern will prolong and intensify drought conditions, especially in southern and eastern regions where rainfall deficits have already become critical, potentially leading to severe soil desiccation and increased wildfire risk in natural ecosystems.Weather forecasts for the coming days predict short-term showers with thunderstorms only in the northern parts of the country, while elsewhere the weather will remain predominantly clear and dry.
From August 11 to 17, stable temperatures are expected — mostly between 24-29°C during the day, with southern and central areas experiencing highs up to 30-35°C.
Winds will mainly change directions, with speeds from 5 to 12 meters per second, and the prevailing condition will be an increased risk of fires.
This situation stems from the anticyclonic system dominating over Ukraine, which ensures hot and dry conditions projected to last at least until mid to late August.Such weather not only complicates daily life but also has a profound impact on agriculture, water resources, and the local microclimate.
Meanwhile, the global climate change issue manifests not only through local weather phenomena but also on a planetary scale — in 2024, the Earth’s average temperature has already increased by approximately 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels, setting new records.
Over the next century, temperatures are forecasted to rise by another 2.7°C, which poses serious risks to ecosystems and human civilization, including extreme weather events, ecosystem collapse, and loss of biodiversity.
