Drones’ Expanded Reach: First Attack on a Russian Region from Abroad

In a development that has attracted increasing attention from Ukrainian society and international analysts, there has been a surge in drone attacks targeting regions of the Russian Federation previously untouched by such strikes.
On August 10, for the first time during the ongoing full-scale war, drones targeted critical infrastructure in the Komi Republic—a region with a rich industrial history but relatively distant from active combat zones.
Reports indicate that a oil refinery in the city of Ukhta was struck, situated approximately 2000 kilometers from Ukrainian borders.
This incident signals a strategic shift, indicating that offensive operations are now expanding beyond traditional targets and into new regions with less immediate proximity to Ukraine.
