Chaly Predicts Iran’s Meeting Between Trump and Putin Will Not Lead to Peace in Ukraine

Valeriy Chaly, a prominent Ukrainian diplomat and head of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, expressed deep skepticism about the upcoming meeting between U.S.

and Russian presidents scheduled in Alaska.

According to him, this summit is unlikely to yield positive results for Ukraine or serve as a step toward peace.

“The plans haven’t changed,” states Chaly, emphasizing that Kyiv has a clear negotiating stance that it refuses to compromise on.

He highlights that understanding the broader geopolitical context is crucial: prior to a potential Biden-Xi summit, which could influence Russia, little meaningful progress can be expected.

Chaly insists that Ukraine must strengthen its international position.

He emphasizes the importance of long-range drones and missile capabilities.

“We need long-range rockets, and believe me, 50–100 Ukrainian ballistic missiles aimed at Moscow could significantly alter the negotiation landscape,” he asserts.

Looking ahead to the Alaska talks, he predicts that the meeting will probably not result in any significant breakthroughs, but instead might serve to legitimize Russia’s war crimes.

“This appears to be a staged spectacle where Russia seeks to save face, while the U.S.

aims to demonstrate strength,” he comments.Regarding the personal objectives of Trump, Chaly suggests they may be more prominent in this context: “If we talk about the goals of this meeting, they are probably more about domestic political interests than genuine efforts toward peace.” Ukraine’s firm stance is that no territorial concessions will be made.

He clarifies that discussions about territorial exchanges are not on the table; instead, considerations of ceding Ukraine’s legally recognized territories are being discussed, which Kyiv categorically rejects.

“This will never happen,” he declares.Furthermore, analysts warn that the negotiations between Trump and Putin carry serious risks for Ukraine.

They note that the U.S.

administration’s current approach could enable Russia to preserve its aggressive stance and extract additional concessions concerning Ukrainian territory.

Many experts believe this upcoming summit might be among the most challenging moments yet for Ukraine, urging Kyiv to bolster diplomatic efforts and national unity to counter external threats.
