Azerbaijan and Armenia Sign Historic Peace Agreement in Washington: Key Facts

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has officially published the full text of the peace agreement reached with Armenia through U.S.

mediation on August 8 in Washington.

This document comprises 17 clauses aimed at establishing a new phase of conflict resolution between the two nations.

The main provisions include renouncing territorial claims and refraining from interfering in each other’s internal affairs.

Both sides agree to establish diplomatic relations and recognize borders that existed during the Soviet era.

This historic accord is a significant step towards regional stability.

It explicitly stipulates that the parties will abstain from the use of force or threats against territorial integrity or political independence, as outlined in the third point.Additionally, Azerbaijan has allocated funds to assist Ukraine and condemned the Russian military strike, demonstrating its support for international stability.

The countries also agreed not to station third-party troops along their borders and condemned all forms of intolerance, racism, separatism, violent extremism, and terrorism.

They will form a joint commission to monitor the implementation of the agreement.International sources suggest that the signing marks a decline in Iranian and Russian influence in the region, opening new avenues for Western involvement.

Moreover, a Western consortium will gain control over a 20-mile transit corridor connecting Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan, dubbed the “Trump Route,” symbolizing a new strategic pathway committed to international peace and stability.
