In the face of recent political statements and international developments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine issued an official statement expressing deep concern over Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico’s recent remarks.

Ukrainian diplomats emphasized that Fico has not fully grasped the profound reasons behind Russia’s aggressive invasion of Ukraine and overlooks the dangers posed by Moscow’s support.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry highlighted that Fico’s diplomatic rhetoric and assessments are not only inappropriate but also disrespectful toward those who sacrificed their lives defending Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence.

They officially warned the Slovak leader against using offensive allegories and folk comparisons that damage international relations and hinder the search for peaceful solutions.

The statement pointed out that such complacency insults thousands of Ukrainian families who have lost loved ones and dismisses the efforts of the Ukrainian people fighting against occupation.

At the same time, the ministry emphasized that Fico’s analogy involving elephants and grass, based on an African proverb, risks increasing tensions and contradicts the spirit of neighborliness, solidarity, and mutual respect characteristic of modern Europe and EU partnership.

Additionally, it was stressed that Fico’s words not only offend Ukraine but also his own people.

Previously, Fico refused to pursue diplomatic approaches concerning a potential meeting between Russian and American leaders, fueling concerns about immediate risks to Ukraine’s security.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry calls for constructive dialogue, respectful adherence to international norms and principles, and condemns policies of misunderstanding, urging politicians to act responsibly regarding their words and actions within the context of international security.
